Unfinished Business

Updated: Jul 2, 2024

'Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you

will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. '

Philippians 1:6 NIV

Recently, I have started working on a project that has, dare I say, caused me to procrastinate to my full capacity. My wife and I have started remodeling our home a little bit here and there, and our son's room was first on the list. We wanted to add in some new shelving, repaint, and also add in your fancy decorative items because let's face it, even if he never played in it again, it would make for some sweet before and after content on instagram. So the first weekend, we hit it hard! I felt like Chip Gaines from the show Fixer Upper on HGTV when it is "demo day". With hammer in one hand and paint brush in the other, I went to work. We finished about 75% of his room within the first weekend and the adrenaline began to wear off. Slowly but surely, I started putting off the remainder 25% because I just could not find the urge to get going again. We would have classified as the show on Netflix that got canceled after one season, but in this case, possibly one episode.

The amount of times I continuously beat myself up because I felt like I was letting my wife down in not "running through the base,"completely are too numerous to count. In this, I am reminded of moments in my life to where I feel like God is "procrastinating" with things in my life. I find myself waiting on him to come in the room and do what He does, but another day goes by and nothing seems to happen. I walked into my son's room a month after the remodel took place and the Lord impressed on my heart this statement, "Why are you waiting on me, when I have given you all the tools you need to not only start, but to finish." I was humbled and energized at the same time. He was right. It was time to get moving toward the finish line. In that moment I knew he was referring to something a lot deeper than just some amateur paint job on the wall. He was pointing out the dreams and passions he stirred in me long ago. Maybe you find yourself with some "unfinished business" inside of your heart that you know God has put there. Maybe it was just recently, or maybe you have had it laying dormant inside of you for years. Whatever the case, it's time to get moving. It's not time to wait on God to move, but rather trust in Him while YOU are MOVING. He has equipped you for this season, so let's make the most of it and watch your dreams come to life because He is faithful to see it through with you until the very end. The writer of Hebrews says it like this 'Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. ' Hebrews 12:1-2 .

Today is the day, for a good day! Don't quit! Keep Believing! Keep Praying! Keep Going!.
